Quattrocchi - Murano Glass Brooches
Quattrocchi - Murano Glass Brooches
Murano glass brooches.
Various sizes: approx. 5-8 cm.
The "Quattrocchi" brooches are crafted from unique combinations of Murano glassmaking debris collected from the island's beaches.
Murano glasswork is a traditional and expensive craft, and many remnants of it wash up along the sea and beaches. Master glassmakers, protective of their materials, often discard these remnants rather than share them. By collecting this debris, we give new life to valuable materials while cleaning the beaches of waste.
The result is a collection of recycled, precious glass brooches - each one a one-of-a-kind piece, rich in history, shape, and craftsmanship.
The name "Quattrocchi" (Four Eyes) comes from the way these magical creations appear to have many eyes, thanks to the "Murrine" embellishments that adorn them. Murrine are distinctive glass elements made using a special technique: bundles of colored glass rods are melted, arranged to form a pattern, and stretched into long tubes of the desired diameter. After cooling, the tubes are hand-cut into small disc-shaped slices, which are then used to create imaginative compositions.
